Over 300 applications received for the Innovation Fund's net-zero technologies call

ANNOUNCEMENT

The Innovation Fund's 2023 call for proposals for net-zero technologies received a total of 337 applications from 27 countries in the EU.

The category which received the greatest number of applications was  'energy intensive industries, including carbon capture, use, and storage', with 204 applications. The remaining categories –  'renewable energy', 'energy storage', and 'mobility, including maritime aviation and road transport' – received 64, 35, and 34 applications respectively.

The transport sector showed a keen interest in the programme. Over 70% of the applications submitted came from the maritime sector, followed by aviation and road transport projects.

The high level of interest in the call, as well as the unprecedented budget of 4 billion EUR highlights the importance of the Innovation Fund in facilitating the implementation of net-zero technologies.

Applicants will be informed of the outcomes of their applications in the fourth quarter of 2024 and successful applicants will sign grant agreements in the first quarter of 2025.
