Overview
For implementing its policy goals, the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Preservation, Construction and Nuclear Safety (BMUB) requires scientifically well founded decision support and advice. For this purpose BMUB annually issues its Environmental Research Programme UFOPLAN.
The strategic objectives of the annual programme are closely related to the prevailing policy objectives of BMUB and its subsidiary entities. These include:
- Environmental protection
- Nature preservation
- Nuclear safety
- Urban development and housing, and the
- Future of construction
The calls for tenders, participation or interest are issued by the subsidiary bodies of BMUB or, in exceptional cases, by BMUB directly via their websites. Subsidiary bodies are:
- Federal Environment Agency (UBA)
- Federal Agency for Nature Preservation (BfN)
- Federal Agency for Nuclear Safety (BfS), and
- Federal Agency for Building, Urban, and Spatial Development (BBSR)
Funding
Funding of the planned project is subject to budget considerations; the funding of issued project within the current year of the programme is thus not guaranteed. Projects are assigned based on either
- competitive public tenders
- public participation competitions or
- calls for interest
