Overview
Local public transport needs to adapt to changing customer needs as a result of demographic change. More and more travellers, especially elderly and people with reduced mobility, need individual support to keep their daily routines. In addition to the technical development, employees of the publicly funded labour market and voluntary individuals are trained as contact persons and helpers for passengers.
Due to its small size and strong demographic impact, the German federal state of Saarland with 2570 km² and 995597 inhabitants undergoing a considerable aging and declining trend, constitutes a model for other regions affected by demographic change.
The pilot project MobiSaar develops a comprehensive, technology-supported aid service for older and mobility-limited people in public transport in Saarland. The goal is the development of a mobility solution for an individual barrier-free routing solution.
To this end, context-sensitive information and interaction chains are to be developed which are adapted to the needs of the individual passenger. The necessary coordination system implements interfaces to external information systems for timetables and routes, the nature of stops and vehicles, as well as geo-information, and evaluates this information dynamically and in real-time, taking law aspects into account.
