Overview
To establish a well coordinated network among the research organisations of the Central European States to share know-how, the latest research results and to be able to find contacts more easily with the European aeronautics industry. This project intended to establish a Central European Research Initiative to foster regional cooperation.
The objective of the CEARES Network was to strengthen the cooperation among the Central and Eastern European scientific community in aeronautics by organising events such as meetings, info days and workshops. The project brings together research centres and universities from the region and provides them with the possibility to work together.
The main tool was the establishment of a regional network, where key aeronautical research centres and relevant university departments will be invited. The CEARES members were informed about the capabilities, research activities and research needs of other members through workshops and a dedicated website with an internal, intranet type forum.

Results
To accomplish the objectives of project there were four CEARES workshops:
- Budapest Workshop: The first work CEARES Workshop took place in Budapest at the EUROCONTROL CRDS facilities in October 2008. The workshop was a two- day event divided into four sessions chaired by members of the AB or of the consortium (namely Christian Pusch, Jean-Pierre Barthélemy, Marcial Valmorisco and Antonín Kazda). In addition MR Andras Siegler (director of the Transport Directorate of DG Research, European Commission) held a presentation as keynote speech.
- Zilina Workshop: The second CEARES Workshop was held in the Convention Hall of Zilina city in Slovakia in May 2009. The event was hosted by the University of Zilina and by Prof. Antonín Kazda as main organiser. The totally five sessions had a common topic, Research Potentials and Perspectives of the Central European Area. The purpose of the workshop was to present large European projects, such as SESAR Joint Undertaking and projects and co-operation initiatives from the industry (Airbus) or from the region, such as CESAR project. Special attention was paid to the Northern countries of Central Europe, namely Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland and Hungary.
- Bucharest Workshop: The third CEARES Workshop was held at the National Institute for Aerospace Research 'ELIE CARAFOLI' – INCAS, in Bucharest in September 2009. This workshop focused sharply on the capacities and capabilities of Romania. The workshop was connected with an EqIMG meeting and the participants from CEARES countries had the opportunity to meet leading European industrialists. At the same time EqIMG representatives could visit the facilities of some of the leading Romanian aeronautical organizations and had an overview on Romania’s aeronautical potential.
- Ceares-Sesar Workshop: The fourth CEARES Workshop was held at EUROCONTROL Budapest in December 2009. This event was planned to have a special focus contrary to the previous three ones. The workshop was initiated by Mr Roland Gurály, CEARES co-ordinator, in order to start a dialogue between the SESAR Joint Undertaking (SJU), the Central European Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSP) and the ATM researchers of the region. The subject of the workshop was to find out how and on what topics the Central European players can take part in the work of SESAR. According to the workshop participants the event turned out to be very useful and interesting. It w
