Overview
The production industry is in a period of changes, which creates new demands for the transport industry. The companies focus on the areas, where they have specific competences, whereas other areas are being outsourced to sub-contractors. This process is meant to make the production process more efficient and improve the ability of handling changes. This induces, however, more complex demands to the supply chain. Production planning is no longer an internal process, but it includes all links in the supply chain.
The aim of the programme is to improve the employment and the competitive power of one of Denmark's major export industries. The improved efficiency will further reduce the need of resources and thereby improve the environment.
A number of new transport services will be developed, creating a basis for considerable improvements in the transport sector to the benefit of the whole branch.
The programme is led by the Institute of Technology and includes various simulations, design and development of concepts and strategies etc.
Funding
Total budget is 26 million DKK, mainly financed by the Ministry of Science and Technology.
Institute of Technology contributes with 9 million DKK, and the Universities with 4 million DKK.
