Overview

Background & Policy context

Security is a key issue at airports. The specialized security staff is responsible for the successful use of the technical controls. Its task is to identify dangers in a timely manner and to prevent security-related incidents. In addition to their personal qualifications, the transfer of experience and knowledge between the employees plays an important role.

Objectives

The aim is to create and test a new, comprehensive development and management process for security personnel at airports. This process should include the effective selection and acquisition of suitable new employees, as well as their continuous support and further development up to the accompaniment of retired employees.

Methodology

Within the project, a broad variety of different methodologies was applied: Literature review, requirements analysis, critical incident technique, expert surveys, small and large-scale tests, whitepaper definition.

Results

The establishment of an innovative, holistic Human Resources management process allows to optimize the selection and qualification of the security personnel, thereby contributing to improving airport security. The new approach integrates relevant personnel development, security management and knowledge management methods. Thanks to newly developed training measures, security staff will be offered future-oriented prospects for further professional development.
