Overview
The Action is located on the Scandinavian-Mediterranean core network Corridor. It is part of a Global Project to ensure the LNG supply chain in the south of Italy through the construction of a small-scale LNG coastal depot at the Vigliena Wharf in the core port of Naples, to serve as a maritime coastal depot facility to allow LNG bunkering operations and deliver LNG to road fuel stations in the south of Italy.
The Action’s main objective is the completion of the design and permitting phases that will lead to the construction of the depot. In addition, the action aims to study the financial, economic, and social aspects of the new infrastructure, identifying the most appropriate business case for the new company that will be created for the management of the facility and realising a cost-benefit assessment of the investment.
In particular, it will allow the:
- unloading of the liquified natural gas from the main LNG carriers, storing the product in a 20,000 m3 depot
- loading the LNG on small barges, creating a supply chain of the LNG on the maritime side serving not only the ships calling in the port of Naples but also in the neighbouring ports of the Tyrrhenian Sea where the LNG demand arises
- refuelling the road tankers that will bring the LNG to the refuelling stations of the Centre and South of Italy
