Overview
The MobiSim simulation model was developed on the request of the French Ministry of Transport.
The objective was to provide relevant assistance in strategic decision-making in public and individual transport in their relationships (interconnections) with land use and urban development.
MobiSim contains 6 sub models: Population, Housing, Employment, Transportation, Trips and Environment. The model approached the daily mobility by 'm' essential trip motives (m = 3): 'home to/from work', 'shopping', 'trips for educational needs'; into and between 'z' zones (z = 3): City centre, Suburbs and Peripheral zones, for the population of 's' socio-professional categories and age groups.
The employment structure was represented by 's' categories of jobs and 'e' types of business activity (industry, business service, household service). The model approaches the 'd' modes of transport (car, road public transport, rail public transport); and 'l' categories of housing, corresponding to the household's size.

The model was established with the Vensim simulation software and consisted of nearly 6 000 equations.
The interface currently understands 17 screens, allowing scenarios to be built and output results to be collected. It described the development of daily personal mobility.
