Overview
SUNRISE proposes to extend the Internet of Things to marine domain. To achieve this, the objectives are to develop underwater communication networks; open-architecture acoustic modem and proptocol stacks; standard platforms for simulation and emulation, and user-friendly interface for diverse users.
The project follows FIRE (Future Internet Research Experimentation) objectives. TUT participates in the project through the development of applications and services exploiting SUNRISE technology. The goal is to cooperate in the refinement and application of an open, device independent world modelling service (WMS) for multiple static and mobile autonomous underwater assets communicating and interacting through the SUNRISE architecture and gateways.
The WMS will be applied and tested on a biomimetic U-CAT autonomous underwater vehicle. The vehicle will be integrated into the SUNRISE architecture through the proposed open-architecture acoustic modem and protocol stacks to exchange the world modelling data with other underwater assets.
