Overview
The TELEMAS project is an R&D project sponsored by the European Commission, DG Information Society Technology and runs from April 2002 until March 2004.
The core of the work consists of the TELEMAS Integration Middleware Platform together with the TELEMAS Umbrella to consolidate information resources, web service identification and linking with e-services ashore. To achieve this, and to make optimum use of advance XML applications for web automation, the available tools and data standards are investigated and document type definitions are developed.
The TELEMAS project aims at increasing the quality, safety and efficiency of vessel operation by exploiting available IT technologies and tools to implement an intelligent ship operation concept. The overall objective of the project is to develop and establish an "umbrella" middleware platform containing integration components and communications management facilities in order to provide a dynamic picture of available technical, operational and human resources and accessible software tools.
The intention of this is to lay the foundations for a Knowledge Base, a virtual data base providing the vessel command and ship owner accurate and timely vessel and operation information consisting of coupled data from various sources.
To prove the umbrella concept, five application areas have been selected:
- Safety
- ISM
- Tele-Maintenance
- e-learning
- Application Service Providing (ASP)
