This month, we feature details of four projects originating in Austria that study topics including sustainable city logistic and automated driving. December highlights include:


  • Two methodological reports from the Joint Research Centre: financial and socio-economic assessment of innovation capacity and Inventory, modelling and assessment of New and Emerging Technologies and Trends (NETT) in the transport sector.

  • An interview with Paz Valiente, Project Coordinator of the Horizon 2020 ECCENTRIC project. The project focuses on sustainable mobility in suburban districts and innovative urban freight logistics.

The European Commission launches a public consultation on how Europe should build trust in connected and automated mobility services, but as well on the bottlenecks that impede for the moment the deployment of these services bringing many benefits for the citizens.


The input  gathered from this public consultation will feed into a new policy Recommendation to be adopted by end of 2018/ beginning of 2019, as announced in the recent Communication on Connected and Automated Mobility (CAM), as part of Europe on the move (so called 3rd Mobility Package).


This public consultation aims to identify the main challenges linked to the deployment of connected and automated vehicles today from the general public and relevant stakeholders (such as car manufacturers, connectivity providers, service providers, telecom providers, end-users, and public authorities including municipalities, the health community, and  civil society organisations).

This month's highlights include details of an Austrian project named ‘Walk your City’ that looks at promoting pedestrian traffic in cities through playful interventions such as augmented reality (AR). Also featured is a report from the Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport that sets out the key trends and issues for the single European transport area.

The Transport Research and Innovation Monitoring and Information System (TRIMIS) monitors the implementation and effectiveness of the roadmaps developed by the Strategic Transport Research and Innovation Agenda (STRIA). TRIMIS analyses technology trends, research and innovation capacities and developments in the European transport sector, providing open-access information.


It has been one year since TRIMIS was launched and the programme team would like to know what you think. This user survey, which will take approximately 10 minutes, aims to better understand the needs of the TRIMIS stakeholders to further improve the TRIMIS website and services. It will be open for feedback between 27 September and 9 November.
