Institutional framework of transport research
- Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT): Responsible for national transport strategy, infrastructure research and the development and implementation of transport innovation programmes.
- The Japan Research Center for Transport Policy: Conducts interdisciplinary research on road transport and promotes sustainable and efficient transport policies in Japan
- Japan Transport and Tourism Research Institute (JTTRI): Research institution providing policy analysis and recommendations on transport systems, public transport, logistics and mobility innovation.
- Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST): Major national research and development agency implementing STI basic plan projects and funding programmes. Transport research and innovation elements include AI for transport systems, smart infrastructure and energy-efficient mobility.
