Living Labs can support the co-creation of new mobility concepts to promote their public acceptance and subsequently a more sustainable and smarter mobility. This report presents the journey of implementing the Future Mobility Solutions Living Lab (FMS-Lab) at the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC) site in Ispra (Italy). The report highlights the main Living Lab methodologies and suggests a framework tailored to different types of JRC Living Lab projects. It seeks to guide other stakeholders involved or interested in multi-stakeholder and human-centric approaches in the mobility field, in particular Living Lab practitioners, researchers, innovators and policymakers, by sharing challenges and recommendations. The report is aligned with the European Urban Mobility Framework recently adopted by the European Commission, which highlights the role of European cities as “living laboratories” where new solutions are designed, tested and implemented to contribute to more effective and sustainable urban mobility as well as higher quality of life.
