Research and innovation in vehicle design and manufacturing in Europe

This report provides a comprehensive analysis of research and innovation (R&I) in vehicle design and manufacturing in selected European Union (EU) funded projects from 2007 onwards. It identifies relevant researched technologies by transport mode and their phase of development. The results show that aviation receives the greatest attention in number of projects and funding. A large number of technologies, particularly when compared to R&I in the scope of other Strategic Transport Research and Innovation Agenda (STRIA) roadmaps, fall within this area. Finally, findings indicate that most of the technologies researched are in their early phase of development, and therefore not yet ready to be deployed in the market soon.
