New mobility and transport services and systems are being created due to developments in ICT-enabled web, mobile and big data applications. Traditional automotive, public and private transport models are being challenged as new players emerge with disruptive services; blurring traditional demarcations between public transport and private mobility, including in the area of urban logistics.
In 2017, a roadmap for new mobility and transport services (SMO) was developed for various transport modes within the Strategic Transport Research and Innovation Agenda (STRIA). It was the result of a European Commission initiative to jointly develop a research and innovation roadmap for SMO with the involvement of representatives of the EU Member States and stakeholders from industry, academia and authorities.
This revised roadmap (2019) for SMO builds on the 2017 roadmap and further develops the research and innovation strategy.
