Overview
Converting conventional metro lines into automated operation
With the increasing and diversified travel demand in our cities, high-performance metro systems are becoming an essential element of sustainable mobility. They not only have to carry high numbers of citizens but they also need to be flexible by adapting their capacities according to demand. Metro automation is a possible way to satisfy these, sometimes, conflicting demands. In this field, the 'RUBIN' project in Nuremberg is a pioneering experience; this is why the UITP Metropolitan Railways Division has chosen this city to host its 2nd international conference.
