European Blue Economy Conference
Description
The third edition of the European Blue Economy Conference will be held on 3 February 2026 at the Sofitel Brussels Europe. This one-day forum brings together policymakers, industry leaders, and innovators to explore the future of Europe's blue economy and its role in driving sustainability and competitiveness. Against the backdrop of growing geopolitical complexity, climate urgency, and accelerating technological innovation, the conference will address key issues shaping the blue economy—from ocean health and marine protection to decarbonisation of shipping, offshore clean energy, and global ocean governance and security.
Europe's blue economy represents a critical sector for achieving climate neutrality whilst maintaining economic competitiveness and social cohesion. The conference addresses the implementation of major EU policy initiatives including the EU Ocean Pact, FuelEU Maritime regulation, and the European Ports Strategy, examining progress made and identifying gaps requiring further action. With coastal and maritime activities employing millions across Europe and supporting the vitality of coastal and island communities, ensuring sustainable development of blue sectors has become both an environmental imperative and an economic necessity.
The conference programme spans six thematic sessions addressing the full spectrum of blue economy challenges and opportunities. It aims to facilitate high-level dialogue on critical issues such as decarbonisation pathways for shipping, offshore renewable energy integration, circular economy implementation in marine industries, digital transformation of ports, and balancing tourism growth with marine ecosystem protection.
High-level speakers include Costas Kadis, EU Commissioner for Fisheries and Oceans; MEP Christophe Clergeau, Vice Chair of the S&D Group and Chair of the SEArica Intergroup; Veronica Manfredi, Director for Zero Pollution, Water Resilience and Green Urban Transition at DG ENV; Jaap Gebraad, Secretary General of the Waterborne Technology Platform; and representatives from industry including Costa Cruises, AIDA, and leading environmental organisations.
