Overview
The International Association of Public Transport (Union Internationale des Transports Publics UITP) will organise a double session entitled "European cities leading innovation for urban mobility" on 11 October in Brussels in the framework of the EU Week of Regions and Cities. The objective of the event will be to discuss how transport innovation can address the urban challenges that European cities are facing. Confronted with a growing demand of mobility, European cities must at the same time address the political goals of healthier, fairer, more integrated and sustainable urban transport.
During the first session, participants will be provided with keynote speeches on how to implement innovation in cities. Building up on this morning session presentations, the afternoon session will be totally interactive with the objective to call upon city leaders, mobility providers, practitioners and innovators from traditional and non-traditional mobility sectors to work together to make cities better. Drawing from the Urban Mobility innovation index (UMii) framework, this part of UITP’s session will bring participants to share knowledge and gather insights in small groups with city representatives, and explore the key enablers of innovation through three dimensions: readiness, deployment and liveability.
