Overview

Efficient and cost-effective freight transport logistics is essential for all of us in our daily lives. But transport also affects us negatively on a day to day basis. Congestion on the roads, especially linked to ports and inland terminals, and pollution from particulates and noise is of great concern.

The globalizing nature of our world means that increased trade, particularly container traffic, has seen unprecedented growth over the past decade, with no sign of slowing down. The political, economic, and social implications of this growth in trade and transport movements, by sea, by rail, by road, and by inland waterways present major challenges. If we add in the impacts of climate change, energy shortages and cost increases, and land utilization issues, the challenges are even more formidable.

The Conference highlights these issues, representing, as they do, specific policy agendas for the European Union. The EU has to tackle the policy implications at European, national, regional, and global levels.

Valencia Port Foundations, member of AMRIE, has kindly offered to host AMRIE High Level Conference on Maritime Logistics. High level representatives of the EU institutions and National Governments, NGO and Industries will be invited to debate with AMRIE members and others maritime actors. A draft programme can be downloaded already from the website "http://www.amrie.org/" and will be constantly updated.
