Overview
Public Transport as Public Space conference on 20-22 April 2022 is organised as part of the PUTSPACE project, a research project led by academics at Tallinn University, Leibniz Institute for Regional Geography in Leipzig, Åbo Akademi University in Turku and Université Libre de Bruxelles. The project explores what makes public transport a type of public space, and for whom. The event is free of charge and will take place in Halles Saint Géry, Brussels. The project is financially supported by the HERA Joint Research Programme and is co-funded by the Academy of Finland, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research in Germany via the DLR-PT, the Estonian Research Council, and the European Commission through Horizon 2020. The conference is more than a regular academic event. It brings together a diverse group of stakeholders (policy experts, activists, public officials, and artists) with the goal to both politicise and humanise public transport knowledge by examining narratives, experiences, and contestations in the field.
