Early this year, on 31 January 2023, the Commission announced its support for 10 pilot projects. Each aims to establish new rail services or improve existing ones. The projects, now launched, should improve rail connections across the EU, making them more efficient, frequent, and affordable. 

The projects aim to support the Commission's Action Plan to boost long-distance and cross-border passenger rail, which was adopted in December 2021.
