ALICE: a New Logistic Platform to Increase Europe’s Competitiveness

ANNOUNCEMENT

ALICE, short for Alliance for Logistics Innovation through Collaboration in Europe, opens the doors to a more efficient and sustainable logistics in Europe, in the framework of Horizon 2020. Backed by major industry players and welcomed by the Commission,  the brand-new initiative wants Europe to take the lead in logistics management, setting a platform where shippers and logistics service providers will closely cooperate.ALICE arises from the idea that moving goods in a better, faster and safer way is a key driver for economic competitiveness, as logistic improvements are automatically translated into economic benefits. At present, logistics is roughly contributing to 14% of Europe’s GDP and also  having a relevant impact on the quality of the EU manufacturing and service sectors. ALICE’s challenge is to achieve a 30% improvement of end-to-end logistics performance by 2030, turning logistics into a sector “that is economically, environmentally and socially sustainable, contributing to both industry competitiveness and the EU policy targets", as pointed out by Ralph Keck, ALICE Chairman, P&G Director Product Supply and GTM Innovation.
