On 23 November 2023, the Commission announced the Innovation Fund's call for proposals for net-zero technologies. A record budget of €4 billion is available, funded by revenues from the EU Emissions Trading System. The calls are open to the maritime, road transport and buildings sectors, as well as energy-intensive industries, renewable energy and energy storage projects. 

Projects will be assessed and awarded funding based on a range of criteria including their ability to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, degree of innovation, replicability, and cost efficiency. 

The deadline for applications is 9 April 2024.
