On 12 December 2023, the Commission adopted the European innovation Council (EIC) 2024 work programme. 

The launch of the programme will open funding opportunities worth over €1.2 billion dedicated mostly to SMEs and start-ups for "deep tech" innovations. The funding aims to support projects such as artificial intelligence, space, critical raw materials, semiconductors and quantum technologies.
