The DUT Call 2025 Is Now Open!
Summary
The Driving Urban Transitions (DUT) Partnership has launched its fourth call for proposals in 2025, inviting researchers, companies, urban authorities, and civil society organisations from 25 countries to collaborate on transformative research and innovation projects that accelerate urban transitions towards climate neutrality and resilience. This transnational initiative, co-funded by the European Commission under the Horizon Europe framework programme, aligns with the EU's commitment to support cities in achieving climate-neutral and smart cities by 2030 through the EU Mission on Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities.
- The DUT Call 2025 offers approximately €44 million in funding from participating national and regional agencies, with an additional co-fund of up to 30% of the eligible budget provided by the European Commission through Horizon Europe.
- The call supports three-year transnational research and innovation projects addressing three thematic Transition Pathways: the 15-minute City, focusing on urban mobility, logistics, and proximity-based policies; Circular Urban Economies, fostering regenerative urbanism and circular resource flows; and Positive Energy Districts, developing solutions for energy-efficient, renewable-powered neighbourhoods.
- Pre-proposals are accepted from 1 September to 17 November 2025, with successful consortia invited to submit full proposals between February and April 2026. Funding decisions will be announced in July 2026, with projects starting by the end of 2026 or early 2027.
The call welcomes proposals addressing sustainable commuting solutions, urban freight and logistics optimisation, integration of multimodal transport systems, and mobility data governance. These research and innovation activities align closely with the EU's Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy and contribute to achieving the goal of reducing transport emissions by 90% by 2050. By enabling analysis, development, and testing of mobility innovations within co-creative and transdisciplinary settings, the DUT Partnership supports the transformation of urban transport systems towards greener, safer, and more equitable solutions.
