EC Assigns New Funding to Tackle Europe's Airspace Congestion

ANNOUNCEMENT

On the 10th of July, the European Commission declared that a new €600 million funding has been allocated to extend the mandate of the Single European Sky Air Traffic Management Research (SESAR) Joint Undertaking (JU) for a further 8 years, until 2024.In the words of Vice President Kallas “Europe’s skies and airports risk saturation”, and preventive measures to unblock congestion seem urgent. Can new technologies, traffic optimisation and improved data management prepare Europe for the 50% increase of flights expected in the next years? With this strategic investment,  the SESAR Joint Undertaking will continue to look into the solution, in an effort to reform Europe’s airspace, doubling its capacity and halving air traffic management costs, trying to make Europe’s Single Sky a reality.More information can be found on the EU website.
