Europe Day Celebrates European Road Safety

The Europe Day, hosted on 9 May, was celebrated by the European Commission and the Greek EU Presidency with the 6 th European Road Safety Day in Athens, Greece. Over 200 high-level experts, policymakers, industry and NGOs brainstormed to make EU roads safer and smarter.
Safety efforts for European infrastructure have so far greatly benefited motorways, accounting for only 7% of all road fatalities in the EU. However, much is still to be done for inter-urban roads, where most fatal accidents continue to occur.
The conference looked at innovative solutions to address this challenge, and analysed intelligent transport systems for their great road safety potential, such as real-time warnings with regards to dangerous road conditions and eCall.
