2024 marks the 40th anniversary of the EU's first dedicated science, research, and innovation funding programme, launched in 1984 as the Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development, with an initial budget of €3.8 billion. Since then, EU investments have expanded to address global challenges, embrace new technologies, and meet evolving societal needs, delivering valuable knowledge and solutions that benefit both Europeans and the global community.
To celebrate, the Commission will share 40 stories, showcasing the impact of EU-funded research over the past four decades. Those with relevant experiences are encouraged to share them on social media using the hashtags #ResearchImpactEU or #EU40YearsRI.
