The Transport Research Knowledge Centre (TRKC) has published a new Thematic Research Summary (TRS) on Equity and Accessibility. When considering the impacts of transport strategies, equity is concerned with ensuring they are reasonably equally distributed, or are focused particularly on those with special needs. Accessibility can be defined as “ease of reaching”, and is concerned with increasing the ability with which people in different locations, and with differing availability of transport, can reach different types of facility. This paper includes a brief overview of the scope of the theme and summarises the main policy developments at EU level relevant to the theme. It also contains a synthesis of policy implications. The new TRS on Equity and Accessibility is available for download from the Thematic publications section of the TRKC website.
