The transport sector accounts for 4.5% of the total workforce in the European Union and represents 4.6% of the gross domestic product (GDP). As a whole within the economy, employment in the transport sector is facing the economic and societal challenges of a growing shortage of skilled workers in an increasingly competitive global environment.
The newly released TRIP Policy Brochure “Employment in the EU transport sector” presents EU policy on transport employment and highlights the contribution of research in supporting policy development and implementation in meeting the challenges of retaining skilled workers and encouraging more and highly skilled people to join the transport workforce.
