SHIFT²RAIL is an ambitious EC initiative to enhance the capacity, reliability and quality of the European rail system in a cost-effective manner, welcomed the favorable position adopted by the Council of the European Union, on the regulation establishing the SHIFT²RAIL Joint Undertaking.
The Council’s position constitutes a progress in the realisation of a Joint Undertaking for Rail Research, which will now be examined by the European Parliament. With a 920 € million budget co-financed by the EU and the private sector under the Horizon2020 programme, SHIFT²RAIL is designed to encompass research, innovation and demonstration activities in all aspects of the rail system.
