Six EU Rail Freight Corridors Now Operational

ANNOUNCEMENT

Europe’s transport is becoming more competitive and sustainable thanks to rail freight corridors. Since 10 November, six rail freight corridors are now operational. The Rhine–Alp, the Benelux–France, the Atlantic, the Mediterranean, the Orient and the Eastern Corridor pave the way for the implementation of the trans-European transport network (TEN-T) programme, aimed at structuring a new backbone for Europe’s movements.
Together, the six corridors permit a stronger, safer and faster cross-border cooperation among transport operators of different countries, lightening the administrative and economic burden for end users on the move. To complete the picture, those six axes will be followed by three further corridors, expected to be ready by November 2015. More information and Corridor routes are available on the EC website.
