Vice-President Kallas introduced the Smart Mobility Challenge to stimulate innovation and integration of multimodal European journey planners, which is part of the European Commission’s strategy for the future of transport. The challenge was concluded 12 March, when two winners were selected in each of two categories. • Operational Journey Planners. Winners of this category were chosen by public vote on a pre-selected set of planners. DOS (from the Czech Republic) and TRENITALIA (from Italy) received the largest number of votes. • Innovative ideas. Chosen by a jury of EU officials and major ITS stakeholder representatives, winners in this category include Penelope Ventures GmbH (Germany) and SNCF (France).
