The research programme 'Future Mobility' is developing designs to setup the mobility system of the future, a system to balance social, environmental and economic needs. The programme helps to develop systems that contribute significantly to ensuring mobility while minimising the negative impacts of transport. The complex interactions inherent in transport systems require interdisciplinary research approaches aiming at developing both technological and social organisational innovations. Thus the programme focuses on new markets, generating solutions that respond closely to the essential needs of society.
The programme addresses strategic challenges in the areas of society, environment and economy. It supports innovation in the fields of passenger and goods transport based on user needs. The programme also supports technical innovation in the fields of transport infrastructure and vehicle technology. This combination encourages development of synergistic solutions designed to address today's mobility challenges and helps to create a sustainable future-oriented framework for mobility research.
The programme is managed by the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG) under the responsibility of the Austrian Federal Ministry for Transport, Innovation and Technology (bmvit).
