Background & Policy context

With the programme Maritime Technologies for the next Generation', project management Jülich coordinates a programme on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) that supports the German industry for ship-building and marine technology in collaborative projects with research institutions in the development of new technologies and products, with a particular focus on innovative ship types. BMWi is making an important contribution to securing the future of the maritime industry.

Strategic Objectives

Objectives of the programme are as follows:

  • Improvement of vessels: for instance the development of new types of ships, improvement of hydrodynamics and safety, environmental protection;
  • Increase in efficiency of shipyards: for example the development of production software, new joining technology, standardisation of production;
  • Safety and security of ships: for example decision support systems, e-navigation and efficient inland water ships;
  • Maritime Technologies: for example intelligent systems, offshore technology and safer maritime systems.
