Strategic Objectives: 

The Scientific Grant Agency of the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic and the Slovak Academy of Sciences (hereinafter referred to as "VEGA") is an internal grant system of the Ministry of Education and the Slovak Academy of Sciences, which provides a common, coordinated approach when selecting and assessing projects of basic research by universities and scientific institutions of the Slovak Academy of Sciences. The Scientific Grant Agency proposes to the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sports and the President of SAS the amount of the subsidy to be granted to address selected new and ongoing research projects from institutional funds.

The structure of support is divided into 13 domains:

1)Mathematical Sciences, Computer and Information Sciences (including earth resources)

2) Earth and Space sciences, Environmental Sciences and Geosciences

3) Chemical Sciences, Chemical Engineering and Biotechnologies

4) Biological Sciences

5) Electrical engineering, automation and control systems and related branches of information and communication technologies

6) Civil engineering (building industries, transport and geodesy) and environmental engineering, including mining, metallurgy and water management sciences

7) Mechanical Engineering & related branches of information and communication technology and material engineering

8) Agriculture, veterinary science and wood sciences

9) Medical sciences and pharmaceutical sciences

10) Historical science and social sciences (philosophy, sociology, politics, theology)

11) Humanities (psychology, pedagogy, sport science)

12) Art sciences, aesthetics and linguistics

13) Economic and law sciences
