Overview

Background & Policy context

The funding programme 'Technological lighthouses on e-mobility' seeks to contribute to the increase in efficiency of the transport system through the use and development of innovative technologies as well as to enforce interoperable e-mobility offerings and to reduce energy consumption in order to generate sustainable environmental effects. The programme builds upon results and experiences of related national, transnational as well as European R&D tenders (e.g. “A3Plus”, “ways2go”, “New Energies 2020”, “ERA-NET Transport”, 6. and 7. FP) and considers the particular concerns and focus of the Austrian Climate and Energy Fund.

The focus of the programme is:

  • efficient use of energy,
  • intelligent energy systems,
  • renewable energy systems.
Strategic Objectives

Until the year 2020 several hundred thousands of chargeable electro vehicles and so called plugin-hybrid vehicles are expected to be used on Austrian roads. An important impulse comes from the programme 'Technological lighthouses on e-mobility' supports the market-oriented development and demonstration of such innovative, future-oriented initiatives.

The programme will enable and enforce technological innovations with long-term perspective and assist in rendering them ready-to-market. Trials of technical innovations can be executed in already existing or newly created electromobility regions. The integration of regional economy and public utility providers thus becomes a prerequisite. The programme aims at initiating at least two 'technological lighthouses' in Austria which will generate reproducible and economically profitable results, secure jobs and create new green jobs.
