Overview
Research undertaken by the Ministry of Transportation and Communications covers all areas of transport and in particular the organisation, operation, planning and development of infrastructure, and standardisation, economic analysis, management, vehicle technology, and impact assessment of land, maritime, air, and multimodal transport services.
The Ministry supports also projects undertaken by the following supervising organisations, authorities: Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority, Athens Urban Transport Organisation, Thessaloniki's Urban Public Transport Organisation, and Hellenic Railways Organisation.
Since 2004 the MTC has become the "Ministry of Infrastructure, Transport and Networks".
Research and technological activities of the Ministry have the following objectives:
- Transport Policy
- Development and maintenance of databases and tools covering important areas of transport operation
- Technology transfer and dissemination of research results
- Development of Decision Support tools for transport
- Road safety
- Transport data
- Transport pricing
- Transport services
The Ministry of Transport and Communications supports research activities of the Greek Universities, the private sector and supervises transport research activities of the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority, the Urban Transport Organisations of Athens and Thessaloniki, the Hellenic Railways Organisation, focusing on areas that are important for the national economy and for the improvement of the quality of life.
Funding
The public funding spend over four years on the above mentioned projects amounts to approximately EUR 1.8 million.
