Overview
"ADAPT-IT" is a joint project between Technion Israel Institute of Technology in Israel (project coordinator) and KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden, funded under the program ERA-NET Transport, Call "Future Travelling" and The Israel Ministry of Transport.
The overall purpose of ADAPT-IT is to develop a decision-support system for systematically evaluating alternative strategies to adjust public transport services and disseminate travel information in real-time. The objective is to facilitate proactive and predictive public transport operations control to maximise the benefits to travelers, operators and the transport system as a whole.
ADAPT-IT will involve the integration of advanced in traffic simulation models, real-time information and operational strategies, prediction models and behavioural modelling in the form of a decision support system. The project will contribute to bridging the gap between existing automated data collection methods and developments in the transport management and travel information domains.
Various transit control strategies that have been proposed in the literature will be studied. A detailed traffic and transit simulation model will be developed. This model will implement various transit control algorithms and thus support evaluation of their impacts on the system. The simulation model will be embedded within the decision-support tool to recommend specific control actions in various situations. Case studies using real-world data will demonstrate the benefits of the developed tool to passengers and operators.
