Background & policy context:
The Rail Baltic/Rail Baltica project Warsaw-Kaunas-Riga-Tallinn-Helsinki is a pre-identified section of the North Sea-Baltic Core Network Corridor. It has the goal to develop high-quality connections for passenger and freight transport between Finland, the Baltic States and other EU countries through the hub in Warsaw.
Objectives:
The Action consists of the following activities:
- bridging the missing links of the EU gauge railway line to Kaunas RRT on the existing infrastructure of the isolated network
- studies and works for the enhancement of performance and interoperability on the section between the Polish and Lithuanian state border-Kaunas
- preparation procedures for the development of the new EU gauge line from Kaunas to Lithuanian-Latvian state border
