Overview
Background & policy context:
The C-Roads Platform is a joint initiative of European Member States and road operators which are in the phase of installing C-ITS for pilots and later operation.
Objectives:
The main objective of the Action is to conduct a national pilot on a specific set of Day 1 and Day 1.5 C-ITS services, by using a balanced mixture of ETSI ITS G5 and cellular communication technologies. Pilot installations will be harmonised, ensuring interoperability based on cooperation within the C-Roads Platform. Key elements are the joint development of technical specifications which provide the basis for all pilot deployments, as well as common cross-site testing to achieve interoperability of the deployed C-ITS services.
Methodology:
The C-Roads Platform is regarded as an adequate instrument for European countries to continue their involvement in the field of C-ITS and to delve into more detail from a particular road operator perspective. Countries across Europe will install C-ITS pilot sites needed for the testing and later operation of “Day-1” and “Day-1.5” services recommended by the EC (C-ITS platform).
