Overview
Background & policy context:
The Action is a follow up and further development of the ongoing CEF Actions C-Roads Italy (2016-IT-TM-0052-S), which is focussed on motorways, and C-Roads Italy 2 (2018-IT-TM-0013-S), which is focussed in urban areas.
Objectives:
Goal of the Action is to maximise the impact of C-ITS on road safety and traffic efficiency, extending the geographical coverage of the national road network along the Scandinavian-Mediterranean and Mediterranean Corridors, deploying and implementing a set of "Day 1" and "Day 1.5" C-ITS services, as recommended by the EC C-ITS Platform.
Methodology:
The Action includes the equipment or upgrade of the relevant roads infrastructure with innovative technologies to allow the interaction and information exchange between road operators infrastructure and vehicles (I2V and V2X).
To allow the deployment of the identified set of C-ITS Services, the communication design and the related architecture will be based on hybrid solutions, notably: “ITS-G5” and “cellular long-range network”, as defined in the European C-ITS Strategy. The concept will be compliant with C-Roads Platform Hybrid Profile definition. The service deployment and implementation will be fully interoperable with the already deployed C-ITS Services under the umbrella of the C-Roads Platform.
