Overview

Background & Policy context

The project Ci.Ro. is aimed at promoting sustainable mobility in urban areas by concentrating on the movement of goods and persons through the development of innovative systems and tools of information sharing and exchange “on demand”.

The experimentation concerned small vans and cars with electric traction. The project is tied to mobility service in the Limited Traffic Zones (LTZ) of Naples and in other suburban areas at high risk of congestion.

Objectives

Using systems created through the integration of existing technologies in a new idea of eco-sustainable management of the mobility system of city of Naples, the project Ci.Ro. City Roaming will foster sustainable mobility by introducing electric car- and van-sharing services as well as e-government assistance and info-mobility services to citizens and users.

Results

Three systems solutions were adopted:

  • service infrastructure: Ci.Ro. points, distributed throughout the city, constitute stations for the distribution of car- and van-sharing with the use of 100% electric vehicles. They are capable of producing energy and are points of telematics and interactive contact with the public administration for the provision of e-government services;
  • technological solutions for intelligent mobility: through an innovative system of navigation, designed to optimise travel time, it is possible for residents and tourists to learn more about the city in such a way as to move with ease and awareness of the territory;
  • E-government services: at Ci.Ro. points one can request the release of authorisations and permits (parking permits, ZTL access, transit in preferential lanes) without having to access physically the designated public offices.

Other results

In October 2015, the Municipality of Naples adopted a resolution for allowing the continuation of the project up to the year 2017 aimed at transforming it into a permanent and self-sustaining service.

The follow-up is coordinated by the association Napoli Città Intelligente and managed by GESCO, a group of social companies.
