Overview
Freight delivery in urban areas is based on general purpose commercial vehicles, not dedicated to a mission in a very specific scenario like urban areas. This is particularly true for medium vans (7.5 to 12 tonnes) that are however widely used in towns.
CITY MOVE aimed at developing an innovative integrated vehicle solution fitting with the integrated city transport solution approach for a secure, flexible, reliable, clean, energy efficient and safe road transportation of goods across cities. Also having also a significant impact on reduction of CO2 emissions and improvement in terms of safety and security.
CITY MOVE aimed to develop a new concept for urban delivery vehicles, an innovative freight vehicle solution that is adaptable to the diverse needs of European cities. A real breakthrough from the actual vehicle platforms, using the latest state-of-the-art technologies to guarantee the market introduction in short term. It was a co-operative venture between the leading freight vehicle companies in Europe and other key stakeholders.
In developing these new freight vehicle options, CITY MOVE involved all stakeholders. They acted as a bridge between the freight vehicle industry, the transport research community, city planning authorities and local business communities.
CITY MOVE started from an accurate investigation of users needs which were the basis for further developments in technical specification. User needs were the starting point for the development of the technical core of CITY MOVE, vehicles and functionalities, where the consortium made a significant step beyond the state of art through the new Vehicle Concept Developments.
