Overview

Objectives:

The Meteorological Concept Validation study aimed to validate the "Buy-In" of the future AIRBUS on-board meteorological measurement system by the Users Community. The Users include the International Meteorological Community, but also Airlines, Airports, and Air Navigation Service providers. The study answered the call requirements which are:

  • to elaborate a state-of-the art definition of the data usage chain, and the corresponding market for civil aviation use,
  •  to validate with the Users Community the technical characteristics of the future AIRBUS system, and the global benefits it will provide.

To answer these objectives, the COMET study benefited from complementary competences to develop the different case views (technical, environmental, business) required to properly validate the AIRBUS Meteorological Concept. Through SMHI, strong liaison with Meteorological Community, and also with Aircraft Meteorological Data Relay Technical Advisory Group was available (e-AMDAR TAG). A useful link to get a thorough vision of the state-of-the-art and the current market status, users expectations, and feedback on the acceptance of the future AIRBUS system. In addition, ATMOSPHERE and TRIAGNOSYS provided methodology expertise for Concept Validation and Cost Benefit Analysis.
