Overview

Objectives

This project proposes a novel CO2-based thermal management system for fuel cell powered electric vehicles. The planned innovation combines three heretofore separate cooling/heating circuits (low temperature, high temperature and CO2) into one system. The anticipated outcomes include an increase in energy efficiency and a decrease in hydrogen consumption, which in turn leads to a higher maximum driving range of fuel cell powered electric vehicles. In order to achieve these results, the entire thermal management system is controlled by an innovative and model-based two-degrees-of-freedom controller.
