Overview
Today there are opportunities in the transport sector to involve more intermodal and multimodal aspects ("intermodal" refers to trip chains, "multimodal" refers to all transport modes). Transport models are adequate tools for treating the problems and providing the necessary quantitative outputs. Transport models need multiple types of input data. By standardizing some definitions in particular between the different modes and by creating a "multimodal transport database" the efficiency of model application can be increased and the reliability of the results can be improved. The project - defined as "pre-study"- inquires the feasibility of a "multimodal transport database" and designs its concept. The project starts from the user needs, it checks the available data sets (with particular focus on Swiss data) and considers possible ways and means to create such a database. Open questions will be formulated and next steps will be proposed.
The main objective of the project is to prepare a "Pre-study" which will identify user needs in the context of transport model applications and design the concept of a multimodal transport database.
