Construction of a pilot docking station, as a part of an LNG distribution system based on cryogenic tank containers
Overview
Objectives:
The Action is the first phase of the Global Project for developing an intermodal LNG distribution system, based on cryogenic tank containers and intelligent docking stations, covering at least all Polish sea ports belonging to the TEN-T Core Network (Gdańsk, Gdynia, Szczecin, Świnoujście) and key road and rail transport routes belonging to the TEN-T North Sea-Baltic and Baltic-Adriatic Core Network Corridors.
The Action will allow the gathering of financial and operational data, aiming at preparing a CBA and a Business Plan for wider implementation. Overall, the Action contributes to support the use of intermodal transport for sustainable LNG logistics.
Methodology:
The Action consists of a set of studies with the pilot operation of one ‘smart’ docking station, enabling long-term storage of LNG in standard 20’ cryogenic ISO-containers, and redistribution of LNG to end users. The pilot plant will be located in Gdańsk at the Lotos petrol station by the S6 expressway, which is the road connecting to the A1 motorway, located on the Baltic – Adriatic TEN-T Core Network Corridor. In the vicinity of the petrol station, the railway station Gdańsk Osowa located on the Comprehensive Network, allows for the reloading of cryogenic tanks containers from rail to road transport.
