Overview

Background & policy context:

The Action built upon CEF Action 2014-EU-TM-0563-W (Crocodile II) to ensure coordinated traffic management via exchange of accurate and reliable data between road operators, private stakeholders and public administrations.

Objectives:

By implementing the National Access Point (NAP), the Action set up the exchange of information between Hungary and the other Member States via standard data exchange format (DATEX II), in line with the ITS Directive 2010/40/EU.

Methodology:

More specifically, real-time information about the availability of parking places along the Hungarian sections of the Mediterranean and Orient/East Med corridors were provided to truck drivers (also via a dedicated smartphone application), allowing them to plan their journey and park safely in a secured area.

Moreover, 102 fixed road monitoring stations have been installed. These allow the new and renovated traffic management centre in Budapest to effectively monitor the traffic, automatically detect incident and estimate travel time, thus improving safety and reducing congestion along the ring road of Budapest (M0) and on sections of motorways M1, M3, M43, M7, M8 and expressway M85.
