Overview
Background & policy context:
85% of Swedish import and export of cargo goes through the Swedish ports. This motivates a focus to improve these bridges to Europe and the rest of the world. The highest potential of better efficiency is in these terminals and the transhipment nodes.
The co-operation of the transport modes in the intermodal chain also represents a great potential as well as the development of compatible information systems.
Objectives:
The objectives of the project are to develop intermodal transhipment centres with respect to sustainability and efficiency in cargo handling in the terminal and towards connecting transport systems by sea, rail and road.
Methodology:
- Analysis of organisational obstacles and possibilities for terminals as connecting points in intermodal transport systems, as well as co-production of different transport services.
- Identification of barriers to the implementation of ICT systems: economical, system related and regulative.
- Recommending how terminals can contribute to efficient and sustainable transport systems.
- Recommending suitable tools and routines to improve information flows.
